CBI books Allahabad HC judge in graft case

New Delhi, December 6

The CBI today registered a case against seven accused, including Justice SN Shukla, Allahabad High Court judge, in a case pertaining to bribery in admission to a medical college in Uttar Pradesh and carried out simultaneous searches in Lucknow, Delhi and Meerut.

A CBI official said besides Justice Shukla, the agency has also named IM Quddusi, retired judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Bhagwan Prasad Yadav and Palash Yadav of the Prasad Education Trust, the trust and Bhavna Pandey and Sudhir Giri in the case.

According to the FIR, all accused have been booked under Section 120B of the IPC (criminal conspiracy) and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In the FIR filed on December 4, it is alleged that the Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences was debarred by the Centre from admitting students due to sub-standard facilities in May 2017 along with 46 other medical colleges.

Later, the trust challenged the decision debarring the college before the SC through a writ petition, the CBI said, adding that “subsequently a conspiracy was hatched by those named in the FIR and the petition withdrawn with the court’s permission”. — TNS
