Day after being set afire, Unnao rape victim dies

The Unnao rape victim who was set ablaze by her perpetrators yesterday passed away tonight at Safdarjung Hospital here after doctors failed to revive her following a cardiac arrest.

Hospital authorities confirmed the death saying she suffered a cardiac arrest late tonight and could not be resuscitated.

The victim was on her way to Rae Bareli yesterday in connection with the case when she was kidnapped by the alleged rapists who put her on fire.

The girl was allegedly raped by two boys in December 2018 and had been pursuing justice.

The case was on trial.

This November 30, the alleged rapists were granted bail and they started intimidating her upon release, leading to the horrific crime yesterday.

The girl was first admitted to Lucknow and later shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital using an air ambulance.

She had sustained nearly 95 per cent burns.
