Patna, March 28
The ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in Bihar is still struggling with ‘seat allocation’. The alliance partners were to announce the seat-sharing arrangement as well as candidates today, but put off the announcement by a day, saying allocation issues were yet to be resolved over six seats.
The RJD announced the candidature of Abdul Bari Siddiqui from Darbhanga where the Congress was keen to field sitting MP Kirti Azad, who recently joined the party.
“It is incumbent upon all allies to obey the coalition ‘dharma’. If the RJD fails to meet our demands, our leadership will have to field its candidate from the Karakat Lok Sabha seat which RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha is set to contest”, warned senior Congress leader Kaukab Qadri.
Under the seat-sharing formula, the RJD is to contest half of the total 40 constituencies in Bihar, the Congress nine, Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) five and former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi-led Hindustani Awaam Morcha and Mukesh Sahani-led Vikassheel Insaan party (VIP) three each.
The suspense over Patna Sahib candidate persists. Sitting BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, denied the party ticket, is said to be all set to join the Congress. He has already announced he would re-contest from Patna Sahib where the BJP has fielded Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. — TNS
