India continued their dominance at the SAFF Women’s Championship by winning their fifth straight title with a 3-1 victory over hosts Nepal in the final here today. India extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to 23 games.
India scored through Dalima Chhibber, Grace Dangmei and substitute Anju Tamang. Just as in the semifinal against Bangladesh, it was Dalima who opened the scoring for India in the 26th minute. But Sabitra equalised for the hosts eight minutes later.
Nepal frustrated India in the second half and it took the defending champions till the 63rd minute to break the deadlock as Sanju put Grace through on goal with a delightful pass. The winger showed great composure to restore India’s advantage. Coach Maymol Rocky brought on Anju in place of Sandhiya midway through the second half and the striker scored in the 78th minute to seal the win for India.
India lose to Uzbekistan in AFC U23 qualifiers opener
Tashkent: India suffered a 3-0 loss to defending champions Uzbekistan in the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers here today.
Captain Islomjon Kobilov put the hosts ahead with first-half penalty, before second-half substitute Bobir Abdixolikov netted twice in the last 10 minutes to take the game away from the Indians. India are set to play their final qualifier against Tajikistan on Sunday. — PTI
