Cong names 38 more candidates for LS poll

The Congress today fielded three former Chief Ministers and several top guns as it released the eighth list of 38 Lok Sabha candidates on Saturday night.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh will be the party candidate from Bhopal, Maharashtra ex-CM Ashok Chavan from Nanded and Uttarakhand ex-CM Harish Rawat from Nainital. The party also repeated its Lok Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge from Gulbarga in Karnataka while former Law Minister Veerappa Moily will fight from Chikkaballapur in Karnataka.

The list contains the names of all Congress candidates from the five Uttarakhand LS seats. Manish Khanduri, the son of BJP veteran BC Khanduri, is the Congress candidate from Garhwal, Harish Rawat from Nainital, Ambarish Kumar from Haridwar, Pritam Singh from Tehri Garhwal and Pradeep Tamta from Almora SC segment.

The list features Mahesh Pathak opposite BJP’s Hema Malini in Mathura. Former LS member Meenakshi Natarajan has been fielded from Mandsaur and former minister Kanti Lal Bhuria from the Ratlam ST seat. Former party spokesman Rashid Alvi will contest from Amroha. 

The eighth list consists of 18 Karnataka candidates, nine nominees from MP, one from Maharashtra, two from Manipur, five from Uttarakhand and three from UP.  The Congress has now declared 218 candidates.
