AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra interacted with cheering crowds, obliged many with selfies and shook hands, her cavalcade virtually crawling, covering a distance of 118 km between Rae Bareli to Ayodhya in 10 hours on Friday. Taking on the PM Narendra Modi, she claimed the PM had all the time to visit foreign countries but none to meet villagers of his own constituency Varanasi.
She held three roadside meetings, a chaupal with women and students and a 12 km-long roadshow in Ayodhya up to Hanumangarhi where her three-day visit culminated with puja.To a question on why she was not visiting the makeshift Ram Mandir, Priyanka pointed out the matter was sub judice.
She attacked the PM for ‘false’ promises and charged him of devoting his poll speeches to abusing those who had ruled for 60 years, not uttering a word about his achievements in the past five years.
Taking a dig at the PM’s ‘mazboot versus majboor’ slogan, she quipped: “This mazboot (strong) government does not listen to the pain of the common people who are suffering as their wages have not been raised.” On farmers’ woes, she said she had been told that farmers had become chowkidars in order to protect their fields from stray animals.
Priyanka spoke at length about Congress scheme NYAY which envisages Rs 6,000 per month for marginalised sections, pointing out that the PM, who had promised Rs 15 lakh to each poor, had in the last year announced a mere Rs 6,000 a year for poor farmers.
Priyanka asked voters to understand the strength of their vote and not be overawed by politicians.She said serving the people was the dharma of politicians and bringing in development was not a favour to them but the peoples’ right.
