India rout Poland 10-0, take on Korea in final

Ipoh, March 29

Striker Mandeep Singh continued his rich form and scored a brace as India thrashed minnows Poland 10-0 in their last league match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament.

Already assured of a place in Saturday’s summit clash against South Korea, India scored goals almost at will.

Besides Mandeep (50th, 51st minutes), drag-flicker Varun Kumar (18th, 25th) also struck twice, while Vivek Sagar Prasad (1st), Sumit Kumar (7th), Surender Kumar (19th), Simranjeet Singh (29th), Nilankanta Sharma (36th) and Amit Rohitdas (55th) were the other goal-scorers for India.

Mandeep now leads the top goal-scorers’ list with seven goal in the tournament, while Varun took his tally to five goals. Five-time champions India go into the final unbeaten, having topped the table with 13 points from five matches. South Korea also ended with 13 points after beating Japan 4-2 today.

Oz Govers to conduct camp for Indian strikers

New Delhi: Former Australia hockey player Kieran Govers will be in India next month to conduct a short camp for the strikers. Govers will conduct a seven-day camp for the Indian strikers from among the core group in Bengaluru. A similar camp for the strikers of the women’s core group was held under former Australia player Glenn Turner in Bengaluru in December last year. — PTI
