Australia bowlers deny report of Warner rift

Melbourne

Australia’s four frontline bowlers, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, have denied a media report that they were prepared to boycott last year’s fourth Test against South Africa if David Warner was picked for the match. Local media, however, reported on Thursday that the bowlers had considered boycotting the match if Warner, who was identified as the instigator of the plot for Cameron Bancroft to scuff up the ball with sandpaper, was selected. “We are extremely disappointed in an article (that) claims we intended to withdraw from the fourth test during last year’s tour of South Africa had David Warner been free to play,” the four bowlers said in a Cricket Australia statement.

Rabada told me it will be six yorkers: Iyer

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer said pacer Kagiso Rabada promised to bowl only yorkers to defend the 10 runs in the Super Over and bail the team out of trouble against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rabada helped Delhi Capitals defend the lowest total in the Super Over in the IPL history as they won by three runs after both teams ended up scoring 185 in their allotted 20 overs. Heaping praise on the South African, Iyer said, “Kagiso and I had a chat before the Super Over and he told me that he would go for yorkers all through, first, second, third, every ball. It takes some special skill to execute that.” — Agencies
