NEW DELHI
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) Ombudsman, Justice (Retd.) DK Jain, has issued notices to cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul to appear before him for deposition regarding their sexist and misogynistic comments on a TV chat show. However, it is not clear how BCCI will co-ordinate with Pandya’s and Rahul’s respective IPL franchises, Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab, to arrange for their deposition during the IPL. It is learnt that they might depose before Justice Jain ahead of the April 11 clash between the two teams in Mumbai. The Ombudsman made it clear that for the matter to reach its logical conclusion, the duo needs to depose.

Karunaratne apologises for ‘unbecoming’ behaviour
Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne apologised for his “unbecoming behaviour” after being arrested for drink-driving in an accident that left a taxi driver injured. Karunaratne, 30, was taken before a magistrate who suspended his driving licence and fixed a trial for May 2. He was also asked to take a medical test. Police told the court that while driving under the influence of liquor, Karunaratne went through a red light and hit a taxi whose driver was hospitalised for minor injuries after the pre-dawn crash on Sunday. “My actions were utterly unbecoming of a Sri Lankan national cricketer and I do apologise to all of you for this incident,” Karunaratne said. The incident came as Sri Lanka decides who will be captain for the national team at the World Cup in England and Wales.

Srinagar football stadium to have floodlights soon
I-League outfit Real Kashmir will have floodlights ready at its TRC Ground in Srinagar by mid-April. As an inaugural fixture, the Snow Leopards will take on Mohun Bagan after April 13, depending on how far they progress in the ongoing Super Cup. “The government has helped immensely in getting the 1,500 lux floodlights ready. Now they will be able to host matches under lights,” an official said. The final of Super Cup knockout competition, which has been snubbed by many I-League clubs due to negligence on the part of the All India Football Federation, will be played on April 13. — Agencies
