Titans bag raider Desai for Rs 1.45 crore in PKL auction
Raider Siddharth Desai was bought by Telugu Titans for the highest winning bid of Rs 1.45 crore on Day 1 of the players’ auction for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL-7). The attacker from Sangli in Maharashtra had earned plaudits for his stellar show last year. However, the winning bid for Desai was still Rs 6 lakh below the record price paid for Bhiwani’s Monu Goyat by Haryana Steelers last year. Goyat was not among the 27 players retained by their respective teams ahead of this season’s auction and was bought by UP Yoddha for Rs 93 lakh.

Kynan top Indian in men’s trap at Shotgun World Cup
Kynan Chenai emerged as the top Indian after scoring 49 out of 50 on Day 1 of the qualifying in the men’s trap event at the ISSF World Cup stage in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. The 28-year-old missed one bird to shoot a score of 49 out of 50. With three more rounds to go on Tuesday, Day 3 of the competitions, the Hyderabad lad will fancy his chances. His teammate Prithviraj Tondaiman shot 48, while the third Indian in the competition, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, shot 47. Eleven competitors out of 142 shot a perfect 50, which meant that Kynan was in the 12th spot, while Tondaiman and Sandhu were placed 43rd and 57th, respectively. Carole Cormenier of France won the women’s trap gold on Day 2. Shagun Chowdhary was the best-placed Indian, finishing in the 26th position with a score of 115. Rajeshwari Kumari shot 109 for the 50th spot while Varsha Varman shot 92 to end in the 69th place. — Agencies

Sevilla coach Joaquin Caparros announced that he has chronic leukemia but says the condition is under control and will not prevent him continuing in his job. The 63-year-old, who took over last month after Pablo Machin was sacked, was speaking after Sevilla’s 2-0 victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga. “I have chronic leukemia,” Caparros said. “I have caught it early and can live a normal life. I want to enjoy my job and for everyone to stay calm.”
