New Delhi, April 2
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today trashed the Congress manifesto as “un-implementable” and borne out of “sheer ignorance”. He termed it an agenda for “balkanisation—designed to break” India.
Trashing promises on social schemes like “Nyay” and review of GST, and “dangerous” ideas like review of laws, rules and regulations, the senior BJP leader said the manifesto “compromised national security and had sham and bluff promises with little detailed understanding of the subjects involved”. “It is an irresponsible document which will never be implemented since the Congress looks a certain loser. Just going by the single promise of removing sedition from the Indian Penal Code, it does not deserve a single vote,” he said.
“Sitting in the Opposition from 2004-14, I used to listen to the tall promises in the Congress Budgets. An early lesson that I gave to myself was don’t go by what is said. The devil is always in the details. In the little time available, I have read the 53 pages of the Congress manifesto. My worst fears have come true,” he said.
Jaitley said by pledging to review the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and reworking troop deployment in J&K, besides abolishing the provision of sedition in the IPC, the Congress was actually trying to help “Maoists, naxals and extremists”. Rubbishing Congress’ ‘Nyay’scheme, he said the BJP was already giving to the poorest 20 per cent much more than what the Congress’ scheme promised. — TNS
