Taking a note of failure of national carrier Air India to enforce the model code of conduct and respond to its notice, the Election Commission today conveyed “serious displeasure” and directed action be taken against the official concerned.
The EC also directed the Railway Board to initiate disciplinary action against the official incharge after expressing its considered displeasure over the non-compliance of the EC instructions, especially “lackadaisical” approach towards enforcing the model code of conduct (MCC) that is in operation since the announcement of poll schedule last month.
Through another communication to the Railway Board chairman, the EC asked for a compliance report (with regard to the official) within a week while asking for a report by April 4 on a complaint regarding NGO Sankalp serving passengers on train in tea-cups with the BJP’s slogan “Main Bhi Chowkidar Hoon”.
Last Friday, the EC issued a show-cause notice to the Civil Aviation Ministry over the use of Prime Minister’s pictures on Air India boarding pass as prima facie it violated the poll code.
