Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in reference to Indian Naval deployment following the airstrikes to hit Balakot on February 26, commended the Navy’s ability to swiftly transit from training to operations.
She was addressing the Naval Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi.
The Navy which was doing a major exercise called ‘Tropex’ had shifted its assets, including the sea-going aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, and submarines, after the February 26 event. Sitharaman referred to the Carrier Battle Group (CBG) — a diverse flotilla of warships, air assets and submarines — and said its ability to shape the battle space was very evident. “A strong Navy remains a necessary guarantor of India’s security and prosperity,” the Defence Minister was quoted as saying on the Navy Twitter handle.
The commanders’ conference will discuss key information technology applications like ‘big data analytics’ and ‘artificial intelligence’.
Harnessing niche technologies such as ‘big data analytics’ and ‘artificial intelligence’ for solutions in the domains of naval combat will be discussed at the conference, which started today.
The Navy will also discuss the themes of ‘Functional Reorganisation of Indian Navy towards improving Operational Efficiency’ and ‘Optimal Manning’ will form the core of discussions towards finalising long-term roadmap for the Navy.
The conference is the apex forum within the service for interaction between the Naval Commanders. The Chief of the Navy, Admiral Sunil Lanba, with the Commanders-in-Chief, will review major operational, material, logistics, human resource, training and administrative activities undertaken during the previous six months and deliberate upon the course to be steered in the ensuing six months.
