Mumbai: Dalit leader and three-time MP Prakash Ambedkar on Thursday landed in a controversy for allegedly threatening to put the Election Commission (EC) in jail for two days for not letting political parties speak about the Pulwama terror attack. Taking cognisance of Ambedkar's statement he made during a rally in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, the state election commission sought a report from local poll officials. Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Solapur and Akola constituencies in Maharashtra as a candidate of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. PTI
Noida admn reaches out to lone village across Yamuna
Noida: The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has hired a motor boat to ferry voters from the Dalelpur village in Noida across the Yamuna river to help them reach polling station, according to an official communication on Thursday. Dalelpur is the only village in the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency which falls across the Yamuna and towards the Haryana side, but is a part of the LS segment in UP. The villagers rue years of “neglect”
by the system and lack of connectivity. They had recently announced boycotting the Lok Sabha elections. An official letter to a boat-owner Thursday said his boat has been hired to facilitate voters on April 11, the polling day. Home to some 250-odd families, Dalelpur has 28 voters, down from around 200 in 2014. PTI
