MUMBAI: Veeru Devgan, popular action director behind films such as "Roti Kapda Aur Makaan" and "Mr Natwarlal" and father of actor Ajay Devgn, passed away here on Monday. Sources said Veeru (77) had not been keeping well for some time. Hailing from Amritsar, Veeru ran away from his home to try his luck in films. He initially wanted to become an actor but became a stuntman and later an action choreographer. PTI
Shower facility installed for temple elephant
Tiruchirappalli: To help a temple elephant beat the heat, a giant-size shower facility has been installed by the Jambukeswarar temple here. According to the temple officials, the facility was donated by a Chennai-based firm. The shower has 20 pipes constructed in a square pattern in the elephant’s enclosure. The officials said they were amused to see the elephant taking the shower every now and then to keep itself cool. PTI
IMD sent 65 lakh SMSes to give Fani alert
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) sent nearly 65 lakh messages in eastern and southern India to give people updates about Cyclone Fani that hit Odisha coast earlier this month, a report sent to Union Government said. The IMD sent over 59 lakh messages to the farmers of Andhra, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, advising them to take precautionary measures. The rest were sent to general public. IANS
