All 8 foreign invitees to attend swearing-in

All eight foreign dignitaries invited for the swearing-in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday confirmed their attendance, said official sources.

While some VIPs such as Thai Special Envoy and the President of Myanmar will leave on Thursday itself, PM Modi will hold bilateral with those who are still in the national capital on Friday.

The invitees include representatives from the six BIMSTEC countries, besides Kyrgyzstan and Mauritius.

Modi has a packed international schedule for this year, which will kick off with the traditional visit by a newly elected PM to a neighbouring country.

While it was Bhutan in 2014, Maldives media has said the first country Modi will visit after becoming the PM for the second time is Maldives, which was briefly under Chinese influence till elections last month and now has tilted political balance in favour of India and the US.

Thereafter, PM Modi has lined up four major international trips—SCO summit in Bishkek in mid-June, G-20 summit in Osaka towards June-end and two visits in September for the UN General Assembly and Vladivostok for the Eastern Economic Forum. Two major inbound visits will be of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese PM Abe Shinzo.
