New Delhi, May 31
Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra, who was set to superannuate today, has been given an extension in service of three months, possibly to ensure continuity in the sensitive ministry.
Mitra, a 1982-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, is one of the senior-most bureaucrats. Rajnath Singh, the appointed Defence Minister, did not assume office today. He is expected to assume charge tomorrow afternoon. — TNS
