It’s raining sequels in Pollywood, and svelte and stylish Japji Khaira would soon be in three – Ardaas 2, Jora - The Second Chapter and Mitti: Virasat Babbaran D.
This Miss World Punjaban is another Geet, in love with self, her own competition, her favourite style icon, crediting her openness to her Australian upbringing. “What I wear becomes the trend,” says the confident star, suiting the occasion as she unveils Shree’s spring- summer collection.
Salwar suits are her pick for this season, “Long flowy kurtis in skin-friendly fabric that double up as dresses the best bet to beat the summer.”
Calling Chandigarh home for a while now, Japji pats herself on the back for her decision to rough it out in Punjabi film industry that seemed like the right step after winning a beauty pageant. While there have been films, she’s an early bird who is entering Punjabi web series with Gangland in Motherland. She admits that she’s been guilty of binge watching Netflix, though the tide has turned now as she got busy with her own projects.
As an actor, she’s happy to have got consistent work, but it’s an intense role that’s eluded her so far, “I would love to do an emotion-packed role,” she shares, making a case for the striped long kurti in pure cotton she’s wearing, “I love acting. I also love to keep connected to fashion and show up as brand ambassador.” Besides an intense film, working with Aamir Khan also tops her wish list. However, standing tall at five-feet- six-and-a-half inch she towers over most Pollywood actors. “That shouldn’t be an issue, Katrina worked with Aamir. I would also like to have fine actors regardless of their height.”
Getting back to sharing her favourites – food, book and place to be – paneer in any form; Alchemist, read it multiple times and India for where her work is, her heart is!
Grace personified
I see my idol in Neeru Bajwa. Born and brought-up in Canada, she roughed it out to make it to as the leading lady of Pollywood. Her decision, manner in which she charted her own way and the grace with which she has carried her long innings is truly admirable.
