Vijayawada, May 30

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was today sworn-in as the second Chief Minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh. His party Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) swept the recent elections, winning 151 of 175 Assembly seats. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan at Vijayawada’s Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium.

The 46-year-old leader took oath in Telugu at 12.23 pm, the auspicious time chosen based on astrological calculations for a successful tenure. Soon after taking over, Jagan said his party manifesto was like Bible, Gita and Koran and he would implement each and every promise made in it in the shortest possible time.

Earlier, the CM-designate arrived at the venue in an open jeep, standing with folded hands, greeting and waiving at the people that chanted victory slogans in Telugu. As he began taking the oath, there were loud cheers from thousands of YSRCP workers and supporters.

After taking the oath, Jagan addressed the gathering, apparently remembering his father, YS Rajshekhar Reddy who as the CM of Andhra Pradesh had died in a helicopter crash a decade ago on September 2, 2009.

Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and DMK chief MK Stalin were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony and shared the dais with Jagan’s mother YS Vijayalakshmi. Vijayalakshmi turned emotional and broke down as Jagan took oath and delivered his maiden speech as the CM.
