Make poll plan for Amethi: Cong to EC

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 3

In a rare move today, the Congress petitioned the Election Commission asking for special polling arrangements to be made in Amethi, the parliamentary segment which party president Rahul Gandhi represents.

In a memorandum to the EC, a delegation of Congress leaders comprising Ahmed Patel and Abhishek Manu Singhvi said they did not trust the BJP-led state administration to do a fair job and wanted the commission to make special plans.

“We have asked the EC for three times the poll arrangements for Amethi as compared to other segments because we have every reason to believe that the BJP government at the Centre and in the state are going all out to disturb the level-playing field in the area. So if the EC is putting two videos for transparent polling in a given segment, it should put five in Amethi. Likewise we demand special observers for Amethi, not normal observers but people with proven credibility and standing and the EC should tell us who they will be," Singhvi said today.

‘Wish pm long life to face consequences’

First we want to know from whom does the PM of India face a threat? Second, we wish the PM a long life. We want him to live long to face the consequences of his actions.” — Anand Sharma, Congress leader
