New Delhi: Poonam Sinha, wife of Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha and the Samajwadi Party candidate from Lucknow, is the richest candidate with declared assets of over Rs 193 crore in the fifth phase of polls, according to the National Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Sinha topped the list of rich candidates with declared assets of over Rs 193 crore followed by Vijay Kumar Mishra, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) candidate from Sitapur, with over Rs 177 crore assets. The third on the list was BJP candidate from Hazaribagh Jayant Sinha, with declared assets worth Rs 77 crore. IANS
Labourer throws hat in the ring for 29th time
Jaipur: A labourer by profession with Rs 1,000 cash in hand, Titar Singh is the never-give-up contestant who has been fighting one election or another since 1983 and is now getting ready for his 29th electoral plunge. The 74-year-old is one of the 11 candidates who have filed papers for the Ganganagar Lok Sabha constituency (SC) in Rajasthan, which will go to the polls during the fifth phase of parliamentary elections on May 6. Trying his luck an Independent, Singh claims he has contested the Lok Sabha, Assembly and local body polls 28 times in the past with the help of donations but lost every time. PTI
