Saradha: Bengal cop gets protection from arrest

Kolkata, May 30

Former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, a close confidante of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, got temporary relief today when a Vacation Bench of the Calcutta High Court granted him protection from arrest and any coercive action till July 10.

The court granted Kumar a month’s protection from June 10, when the court would reopen after summer break On June 12, the case would come up for hearing before a regular Bench.

Rajeev Kumar moved the High Court today, seeking cancellation of the CBI notice served on him after his application for anticipatory bail was rejected last week by the Special CBI Court at Barasat on technical grounds.

Kumar, Kumar, now posted as the ADG, CID, was summoned by the CBI on May 26 to appear before it. Kumar, suspecting he would be arrested by the CBI, ignored the summons. — TNS
