Session from June 17, Union Budget on July 5

The first session of Parliament under Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA-II will commence on June 17 and end on July 26 with the Union Budget to be presented on July 5.

The session will have 30 sittings and could signal the path PM Modi takes in his second tenure after he returned with a bigger mandate than 2014.

Newly elected MPs will be administered oath on the first two days of the session, following which the Speaker’s election will be held on June 19. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint session of Parliament on June 20.

The Economic Survey 2019 will be tabled on July 4, followed by the presentation of the first Budget of NDA-II on July 5 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. 

The oath to newly elected MPs would be administered by the Pro-tem Speaker. Parliamentary convention is to appoint the seniormost elected MP. This time, the seniormost MP is Maneka Gandhi, who has won for a record eighth time. 

The only other MP who matches Maneka Gandhi’s seniority in the Lok Sabha is Santosh Gangwar, who has joined as Labour Minister.
