New York: Former self-help guru Keith Raniere was a “predator” who preyed on young women and turned them into sex slaves as part of a cult-like organisation, a prosecutor told a jury. “He took advantage of them. He sold himself as the smartest, most ethical person…compared himself to Einstein and Gandhi,” the assistant attorney said. The defence lawyer said all women joined his group Nxivm voluntarily and Raniere was merely a tough taskmaster. Raniere, 58, has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, child pornography and other crimes. reuters
Pamela Anderson visits Assange in prison
London: Actress Pamela Anderson met Julian Assange at Belmarsh high-security prison on Tuesday, in his first social visit since he was hauled out of London's Ecuadorian embassy and arrested in April. “He does not deserve to be in a super max prison. He has never committed a violent act, he's an innocent person,” Anderson said. She claimed the WikiLeaks founder has been 'cut off from everybody', including his children, and does not have access to any information. IANS
