Tendulkar, VVS summoned by Ombudsman on May 14

New Delhi: Cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman will depose in person for their alleged Conflict of Interest case before the BCCI Ombudsman cum Ethics Officer, Justice DK Jain, here on May 14. It is learnt that the complainant, Sanjeev Gupta of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri have also been summoned for deposition.

‘Fantastic chance’ for India to win WC: Vengsarkar 

Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar believes that the Virat Kohli-led India team has a “fantastic chance” to lift the upcoming World Cup. India begin their campaign against South Africa on June 5. “India have got a fantastic chance to win the World Cup. At least last-four they will go definitely. But the final, I can’t predict to be honest. But we have got extreme potential and all the players are in good form,” Vengsarkar said.

Morgan  takes England past Pakistan

England captain Eoin Morgan led his side to a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in a lone T20 International in Cardiff on Sunday with an unbeaten innings of 57. Test skipper Joe Root made 47 and James Vince 36 as England overhauled Pakistan’s total of 173/6 with four balls to spare. Archer also continued his push for a World Cup call-up by taking 2/29.

IOC chief calls Semenya case ‘complicated’ 

International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach called the controversial gender case of South African runner Caster Semenya “extremely complicated and delicate” and said an expert panel will study its implications. Two-time Olympics champion Semenya last week lost a court challenge against the International Association of Athletic Federations over plans to force some women to regulate their testosterone levels.

New kabaddi league from May 13  

Eight teams are set to vie for top honours in the inaugural Indo International Premier Kabaddi League (IIPKL), to be held from May 13 to June 4. A total of 44 matches will be played in the tournament, to be held in Bengaluru, Mysore and Pune. The first 20 matches will be played in Pune from May 13 to May 21, and the next 17 in Mysore from May 24 to May 29. The last seven matches will be held in Bengaluru from June 1 onward. The teams are Bangalore Rhinos, Chennai Challengers, Telugu Bulls, Pune Pride, Haryana Heroes, Mumbai Che, Diler Delhi and Pondicherry Predators. — Agencies
