A group that initially originated with a passion to keep the love for Punjabi culture alive in the Middle-East, Pure Bhangra has sure lived up to its aim. The most happening Bhangra crew in Dubai started as a troupe of university students who loved to dance.
Today, it has made a huge leap by getting a platform to perform at the prestigious Asia Football Cup, Truckers — Baisakhi Mela in the heart of Downtown Dubai and at the Global Village, one of the many tourist attractions in the UAE!
As many as 20 dedicated youngsters today make Pure Bhangra a craze. Their team lead, Hardeep, takes us through the journey.
The beginning
November 24, 2011, marks the date of its origin; the team of eight dancers limited themselves to little choreography sessions here and there. However, today the group has grown into an organisation that strives to provide numerous services, while pursuing its love for dancing. Our biggest strength is that each one complements the other. We have together given the best of our performances, like the one with Diljit Dosanjh. We have come a long way together.
Cohesive bond
Bhangra is a dance form that is all about expressing yourself and spreading happiness. We wanted to put India on the world map as a country in which despite diverse values, our culture works as a cohesive bond. We wanted the world to know our values, our dance form and our roots.
Amazing dance
In the Middle-East, people love bhangra now. They enjoy every tune and move with us. It’s amazing when you see people of other cultures and countries groove on our tracks. Others just stop to see what this amazing dance form is.
Inspired lot
We take inspiration from various cultures. Middle-East has its influence on Pure Bhangra in the sense that we sometimes mix their tracks in our Bhangra and Giddha performances in order to connect them to our dance.
Good going
We introduced Beach Bhangra and to our surprise, it has been widely received. This has been the best and the most successful move by us till now, where as we have used a mix of tracks. We were joined by children, young boys and girls; women and men. The elderly too join us to shake a leg. The next on anvil is power Bhangra for the health-conscious, starting this May.
