Aligarh: A simple shop selling ‘kachoris’ in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh has left the commercial tax sleuths astounded. The shop, known as ‘Mukesh Kachori’, is located near Seema cinema hall and is a favourite among locals. All was well with Mukesh and his shop until recently when someone lodged a complaint with the commercial tax department. A team of tax inspectors found that Mukesh was earning anywhere between Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore and even more annually. IANS
Indian woman inherits son’s legacy in UAE
Dubai: A 78-year-old Indian woman has inherited her unmarried son’s legacy in the UAE eight years after his death, leaving her overwhelmed, according to a media report. Marykutty Thomas’ 35-year-old son Shino worked in a company in Dubai with a decent salary. After his death, he left all his savings for his elder brother and mother in Kerala. Her elder son was in touch with the company authorities and when he too died the next year, Thomas was busy mourning the loss and could not follow up the monetary paperwork. PTI
Scuffle over old Rs 10 note costs man his life
Mumbai: An argument over an old Rs 10 banknote cost a 35-year-old man his life in Dadar in Mumbai, the police said on Tuesday. According to the police, victim Mohammed Hanif Siddhiqui had handed the old banknote to a vendor while purchasing vegetables from him outside Dadar (West) railway station on Monday night. An argument broke out between the two over the old currency, which soon turned into a scuffle during which the vendor allegedly stabbed Siddiqui with a knife. PTI
