Strap: Shah to continue as national president
New Delhi, June 17
Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda was today appointed as party's working president during a parliamentary board meeting here.
Addressing the media after the meeting, which was attended by PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, at the BJP headquarters, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said: "Shah today said he was unable to give enough time to the party as he was also in charge of the Union Home Ministry… So it was decided that the party president's post should be given to someone else.”
But the board members urged Shah to continue as the party chief till the BJP's membership drive and elections got over. “However, Shah insisted on his replacement. So, the board decided that Nadda be made the party's working president," Rajnath said.
Shah, however, will remain the party's national president. — Agencies
