Bhopal, June 30
BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s so and MLA from Indore-3, who was arrested for assaulting an Indore Muncipal Corporation (IMC) official with a cricket bat on June 26, walked out of prison this morning. He was granted bail by a special court for public representatives yesterday.
Speaking to the media soon after, Akash Vijayvargiya said he was not embarrassed about his conduct as he had acted in public interest. “Mein bhagwan se prarthna karta hun ki mujhe dubara balley baji karney ka avsar na de. Ab Gandhiji ke dikhaye rastey par chalney ki koshish karunga. (I pray to God not to give me another chance at batting. Now on, I will walk on the path shown by Gandhiji)”.
Yesterday, Additional Sessions Judge Suresh Singh had granted bail to the MLA in two cases — thrashing an MC officer on June 26 and for a protest without prior information to local administration in Rajbada in Indore over power cuts.
The MLA was sent to jail till July 7. In a video that went viral, he was seen threatening officers Dhirendra Byas and Asit Khare, who were on an anti-encroachment drive, asking them to leave “within five minutes or face the consequences.” A little later, the MLA, wielding a cricket bat, and his supporters were seen slapping and punching the hapless officials.
“I am an elected representative. It is my responsibility to sort out issues between residents and the authorities. I made every effort, but the civic officials resorted to dadagiri,” he said after the incident. At the police station, he claimed: “Mein gussey mein tha, mujhey nahin pata meine kya kiya (I was furious, I don’t remember what I did).”
BJP youth wing leader arrested
The Damoh district police have booked Vivek Agrawal, district vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) for threatening a public servant, bat in hand. His mother is a BJP corporator. Defending Akash Vijayvargiya in a video, he had yesterday claimed: "Since the Congress formed government in MP, no work is being done without money and muscle (power)... I too went to the Damoh municipality with a bat to get people's work done." He said it was not his intention to hit anybody.
