Famous folk dancer Queen Harish and three of his accompanying folk artistes were killed and five others injured when an SUV in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary heavy vehicle at Bilara, near Jodhpur, on Sunday.
Hailing from Jaisalmer, the 30-year-old dance artiste dressed in female attire, Queen Harish, earned global recognition for his dance skills in Ghoomar, Kalbelia, Chang, Bhawai, Chari, and his performances on Bollywood songs with his young team of folk music players. Harish was a contrast of many faces who had a misty appearance and an enchanting elegance.
The deceased were identified as Ravindra Goswami, Latif Khan and Bhikhe Khan. The injured were rushed to MBM Hospital at Jodhpur where the condition of one person was stated to be critical, Bilara police station SHO Sitram Khoja said.
Expressing grief over the loss of four artistes, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Queen Harish gave a new name to the folk dance and folklores. “It is a big loss to the field of ancient and modern art and dance.”
The mishap occurred around 5:30 am when their SUV rammed into a stationary vehicle on the Jodhpur-Jaipur highway at Bilara. The bodies were handed over to their relatives who came from different villages of Jaisalmer.

A native of Jaisalmer, Harish Kumar was popularly known as Queen Harish. He had gained worldwide recognition for his folk dance skills in Ghoomar, Kalbelia, Chang, Bhawai, Chari among others.
