Holding the Samajwadi Party responsible for failing to transfer its Yadav votes even in Yadav-dominated areas, thus causing the defeat of three members of the Yadav first family, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Tuesday maintained there was no permanent break-up with the party.

Mayawati said loss of Yadav votes in Yadav-dominated constituencies, from where Dimple Yadav (Kannaul), Dharmendra Yadav (Badaun) and Akshay Yadav (Firozabad) lost, had caused her much pain.

There was some internal strife within the Yadavs as they appeared to be angry for some reason, observed Mayawati.

Virtually negating any advantage to the BSP from the alliance, Mayawati asked: “When the SP base vote is no longer with the party, how it could have helped the BSP?”

Speaking to a news channel, Mayawati said she had given a chance to SP national president Akhilesh Yadav to turn around his party. She did not rule out the chances of coming together once again if the Samajwadi Party managed to inculcate a missionary zeal in its workers and improve its performance.

“While SP president has to put his party in order, he also has to struggle hard to prepare his party to fight to free the state and country from the BJP’s casteist, communal and anti-people policies. If he succeeds, we will continue to be together in the future,” asserted Mayawati.

“If for some reason he does not succeed, then it would be better for us to go our own ways. As this transformation was not possible in a short time, the BSP has decided to contest the forthcoming bypolls to the Assembly on its own,” explained Mayawati.

However, Mayawati did acknowledge the respect she had received from Akhilesh Yadav and Dimple Yadav like a family elder. “Our relationship will continue and we would be there for each other through thick and thin. However, we cannot ignore political compulsions,” she noted.

Akhilesh, on the other hand, played down Mayawati’s statement. Speaking to reporters in Azamgarh on Tuesday. “If our paths are different, then we welcome it and best wishes to everyone. If the alliance is no more, then I will deeply reflect on it. The Samajwadi Party would also prepare for the bypolls on its own,” he said, expressing confidence of the SP forming a government on its own government in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.
