New Delhi, July 29
Samajwadi Party member Azam Khan today apologised in the Lok Sabha for his “sexist” remarks against BJP MP Rama Devi who was in the presiding officer’s chair last Thursday during discussion on the anti-triple talaq Bill.
“Whether I say something once or thousand times, it will mean the same. It is not possible for me to speak anything against the Chair.... If my words have hurt anyone, I apologise,” Khan said soon as the House assembled and Speaker Om Birla asked him to tender an apology in response to the larger sentiment the House earlier expressed.
When Khan was saying sorry, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi asked him to repeat his words as the former was not audible.
Rama Devi spoke later and did not look convinced at Khan’s atonement. — TNS
