New Delhi, July 15
Home Minister Amit Shah and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi today sparred in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Bill. While the government asserted the Bill was aimed at broadening NIA’s powers in view of new challenges, the Congress termed it an attempt to turn India into a “police state”.
It started when Hyderabad MP Owaisi interrupted BJP’s Satyapal Singh who claimed then Hyderabad Police Commissioner was asked by a political leader to change the course of investigation in a particular case or else he could be shifted out. Singh said he knew of the development as he was the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
Owaisi demanded that Singh substantiate his claims with records. Shah said the ruling side did not disturb Opposition members during their speeches. — TNS
