Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy has clarified that since the Centre has laid much importance to infrastructure, there should be no doubt about providing funds for the Polavaram irrigation project.
It was felt that the YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh might stop the Polavaram project, considered a baby of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Slated to cost Rs 55,548 crore, majority of the money for the project has been spent by the state government, except Rs 6,764 crore from the Centre. The project will meet the irrigation needs of AP as it will directly benefit all 13 districts.
The BJP is making all-out efforts to make inroads into the two Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who launched the party’s membership drive from here yesterday, has asked his number two — Reddy — to tour the two states extensively so that the party becomes a formidable force by the next election. Speaking at a membership drive at Vijayawada, Reddy said the BJP planned to strengthen itself so as to become a serious contender for power. He predicted that both states would see major political changes over the next two years with local parties losing mass bases to the BJP.
Claiming BJP to be the only alternative in both states, he said not just in these two states, but in Kerala too the party was hopeful of staking claim to power in a few years.
Reddy, an MP from Secundrabad, said despite lack of appreciation by Opposition in the two states, the BJP was committed to development of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
