Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was suspended for a doping violation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.
BCCI said that Shaw had “inadvertently” ingested a prohibited substance and the board had “accepted his explanation”.
Prithvi, 19, is a right-handed batsman and was captain of the Indian team that won last year’s ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup. He had been included in the Indian team for the test series against Australia last year and had started off well in the warm-up matches but sustained an ankle injury in one such match in Sydney. He was later sent back to India and could not complete the tour. Known for his aggressive batting style, Shaw was slated to open for India against Australia but the injury resulted in his exit from the team.—with PTI
