To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked BJP MPs to undertake “padayatras” in their respective constituencies, covering a distance of 150 km between October 2 and October 31, the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Addressing the BJP parliamentary party meeting this morning, PM Modi also asked Rajya Sabha members to visit constituencies where the party organisation required strengthening
“These yatras will focus on revival of villages and making them self-reliant with plantation drives and zero budget farming,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said, quoting the PM.
Apparently, the PM also suggested that “padayatras” can be conducted between October 2 and January 30, the birth and death anniversary of Gandhi. However, he left that to the party to decide.
He said the padayatras should focus on villages and reaching out to people and seek their feedback on the government’s work and expectations, asking MPs to also discuss Gandhian thoughts with people.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke on the Union Budget she presented last week, expanding on its various facets that need to be highlighted among the masses. According to Joshi, the PM also said the BJP’s “Sankalp Patra” (election manifesto) should be reflected in its vision for the future.
