New Delhi, July 4

Noting that the policy of roping in private sector specialists through lateral entry into the government is not new, Minister of State for Department of Personnel and Training Jitendra Singh today told the Rajya Sabha that the process has now only been streamlined to remove discretion in appointing them.

Responding to the concerns raised by members in the House saying the move would jeopardise the promotional avenues of the serving government servants and also would go against the reservation policy, he said vacancies are announced under the scheme as there is shortage of officers in different departments. “So the policy will have no impact on the service condition of the existing employees,” he added.

On the issue of reservation policy being impacted, the minister said the posts are proposed to be filled on the basis of “single cadre vacancy” and in this case quota was not applicable. — TNS
