Chandigarh, July 14
Putting to end the month-long speculation over his status in the Capt Amarinder Singh Cabinet, Navjot Singh Sidhu today said he had resigned as minister.
He took to Twitter to share his resignation letter dated June 10, 2019, and addressed to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. The letter was handed over to the latter when the two met in the presence of AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party leader Ahmed Patel a month ago.
In another tweet, Sidhu said he would send his resignation to the CM. The latter is in
Delhi for a meeting with PM Narendra Modi on July 15. He is yet to receive the resignation, said Raveen Thukral, media adviser to the CM.
Sources say the CM is likely to accept the resignation as he is irked with Sidhu’s recent utterances, especially the “friendly match” jibe while campaigning in Bathinda, two days before polling. The CM had accused Sidhu of damaging party’s prospects in the LS elections.
What next?
- Capt Amarinder Singh likely to accept resignation and forward it to Governor for approval, before inducting another minister
- As legislator, Navjot Singh Sidhu could enjoy greater freedom to speak on public forum against Capt Amarinder govt
