New Delhi: Outgoing Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday approved the appointment of Balasaheb Thorat as Maharashtra Congress president a few days after Ashok Chavan resigned from the post. In a series of approvals, Gandhi also named KC Padavi the new Congress Legislature Party Leader in Maharashtra Assembly. Padavi succeeds R Vikhe Patil, who defected to the BJP recently. The Congress also named five working presidents with Thorat besides forming election committees in poll-bound Maharashtra. TNS
107 MLAs set to join BJP in West Bengal, claims Roy
Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Mukul Roy on Saturday claimed that nearly 107 MLAs, a majority of them from the ruling TMC in West Bengal, were in touch with the saffron party and were likely to join it “very soon”. Several Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, both at state and district levels, have lost confidence in the Mamata Banerjee-led party and are fed up with the way it is functioning, he told a group of reporters here.
