New Delhi, July 30
The family of Unnao rape survivor—who is struggling for life after being hit by a truck—had written to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as they apprehended threat to their lives from the accused.
The July 12 letter written by the survivor and two of her family members in Hindi narrated how on July 7-8 some people allegedly associated with accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar threatened her family with dire consequences. They demanded registration of an FIR against those who intimidated them.
Besides the CJI, the letter was also addressed to the Allahabad High Court and several authorities of the Uttar Pradesh government.
The letter signed by the rape survivor, her mother and aunt stated that on July 7 Naveen Singh, son of Shashi Singh, an accused in the rape case; Manoj Singh, brother of another accused Kuldeep Singh and one Kunnu Mishra had visited their house and threatened them. Another person went to their house the very next day.
The victim family said along with the letter they were also annexing a video of the car in which the persons came to their house and threatened them.
The rape case hit the national headlines after the victim attempted self-immolation outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence.
The Chief Justice of India is said to have asked the secretary general to prepare a note on the letter for his perusal.
The car carrying the 19-year-old rape survivor, her family and lawyer was hit by a speeding truck in Rae Bareli on July 28, killing the two of her family members. She and the advocate were critically injured in the incident.
Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from Bangermau in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in the rape case in April 2018. The state government has made a request to the Centre for a CBI probe into the case.
A FIR registered on July 29 named Sengar, his brother Manoj Singh Sengar, Vinod Mishra, Haripal Singh, Naveen Singh, Komal Singh, Arun Singh, Gyandendra Singh, Rinku Singh and Awadhesh Singh as accused.
