TN schools to face action over caste bands
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has asked its officials to identify and act against the schools where children were allegedly being made to wear coloured wristbands to identify their caste. “...in some schools, students were made to wear coloured bands. The band shades indicate whether a student belongs to a “lower” or “upper” caste. Rings and 'tilak' on forehead were also used as caste marker,” a circular issued by Director of School Education S Kannappan said. PTI
