Lucknow Court recently issued a non-bailable warrant against rapper-singer Yo Yo Honey Singh in a seven-year-old criminal case that a police officer brought against the singer.
IANS reported that the FIR was lodged against Honey on December 31, 2012, over a complaint that IPS officer Amitabh Thakur filed at the Gomti Nagar police station. The complainant claimed that the song, ‘Main hoon balaatkari’, which he claimed Honey Singh sung, were “derogatory and condemnable”. The complainant added that the song in question was widely available on the internet.
After investigation, the police registered a case against the singer on June 27 2013, under Sections 292 (sale of obscene books), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young persons) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the Indian Penal Code.
The court had ordered Honey Singh to appear before it on December 23, 2013, but the rapper ignored the summons. The court has now asked the singer to appear before it on September 11, 2019.
