New Delhi, August 30
Senior Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar today appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and recorded his statement in a PMLA case against him.
Accompanied by his supporters, Shivakumar arrived at the agency’s headquarters here around 7 pm. He left around 11.45 pm.
The ED had in September last year registered a money laundering case against Shivakumar, Haumanthaiah, an employee at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, and others. The agency registered the PMLA case following a chargesheet filed by the Income Tax Department against him last year before a special court in Bengaluru on charges of tax evasion and Hawala transactions.
Shivakumar had to appear before the agency after the Karnataka High Court on Thursday dismissed his petition challenging the ED summons. The I-T Department has accused Shivakumar and his associates of channelising unaccounted cash on a regular basis through ‘Hawala’.
