The Lok Sabha on Friday passed a Bill providing for a uniform safety procedure for all dams in the country. Dr Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of the newly formed Jal Shakti Ministry, piloted the Dam Safety Bill, 2019, that provides legal and institutional mechanism to ensure safe functioning of all dams and related issues. He claimed there was no attempt to usurp the powers of the states. Water is a state subject. The proposed legislation provides for proper surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of 5,200 dams and about 450 under-construction dams. tns
Code on Wages Bill gets Parliament nod
With the Rajya Sabha giving its nod on Friday, Parliament has approved a Bill to enable introduction of minimum wage for every worker, besides addressing issues like delay in payment to employees. The Code on Wages Bill, 2019, seeks to amend and consolidate laws relating to wages, bonus and matters connected therewith. Eighty-five RS members voted in its favour, while eight voted against it. The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on July 30. tns
RS clears Bill to scrap 58 archaic laws
Parliament on Friday passed a Bill to repeal 58 old central laws which the government said has been done to achieve maximum governance. The Repealing and Amending Bill, 2019, was passed by the Rajya Sabha through voice vote. It was passed by the Lok Sabha on July 29. tns
