New Delhi, August 13
After capping the prices of orthopaedic knee implants in 2017 and 2018, the government today allowed implant-makers to marginally raise the prices — not more than 10 per cent in a year. The relaxation has been allowed for 2019 with the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority today saying the decision would be reviewed after a year.
The NPPA said the industry wanted a relaxation of up to 20 per cent a year but only 10 per cent was allowed. “The ceiling price of orthopaedic knee implants will be monitored such that the price increase of knee implants does not increase beyond 10 per cent in a given year.”
The NPPA had notified the ceiling price of orthopaedic knee implants on August 16, 2017, for one year. Subsequently, the cap was extended to August 15, 2019. — TNS
