New Delhi, September 20
Reacting to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s move to further cut corporate tax today, the Congress said the FM was suffering from bankruptcy of ideas and pushing India towards “economic anarchy.” Congress media head Randeep Surjewala said the government was characterised by “one step forward, three steps backward”.
“The latest announcement is another panic reaction to tide over choppy sensex index, instead of laying down sound economic vision and fiscal policy for the country. The experimental PM and the greenhorn FM have a lot to answer for,” he said.
“Corporate tax cut will cause revenue loss of Rs 1,45,000 crore. Can PM and FM tell the nation how this will be compensated?” asked the Congress. Party leader Jairam Ramesh welcomed the reductions, but expressed doubts on whether the step will revive investment. Asking if it was the PM’s “trump card”, he said the government’s move does nothing to dispel the fear that pervades India Inc. — TNS
