Clearly disillusioned with the Congress and the BSP, Samajwadi party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday declared to go alone in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The SP had entered into an alliance with the Congress during the 2017 Vidhan Sabha election and with the BSP for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, both failing to bring it the required seats.
Akhilesh admitted that he had seen the fate of alliances and he had now decided to contest the 2022 election on his own. He refused to comment on BSP national president Mayawati’s allegation against his party of indiscipline and not succeeding in transferring votes to the BSP.
He, however, did not rule out an alliance with smaller parties like Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj party during the forthcoming by elections.
Akhilesh, meanwhile, postponed his 2-day trip to Rampur in support of SP Lok Sabha MP Mohd Azam Khan, who has 80 cases filed against him and his family. He said Rampur DM Aunjaneya Kumar Singh had expressed his inability to make arrangements for his visit citing Muharram programmes and Section 144 being promulgated.
