Itanagar: In a one-of-its kind initiative, the Lohit district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has set up a classroom in an old and abandoned bus, replete with tables, chairs and stationeries, as part of its initiative to deal with space crunch in school buildings. Space crunch in schools is one of the major reasons leading to dropouts, a district official said. “The ‘school on bus’ idea has been well-received by the students of a government-run primary school at Thowang village in the district, he said. Women form world’s biggest ‘W’ for water conservation
New Delhi: With an aim to push forward the cause of water conservation, more than 500 women were brought together here in the national capital by an umbrella organisation of women-led ventures in areas of art, architecture, design and engineering to form the world’s largest human formation of the letter “W”. The event marked the beginning of a community named “Women Water Warriors”, with the letter “W” representing women standing for the water conservation cause. PTI
TN CM Palaniswami conferred doctorate
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami was conferred an honorary doctorate by a deemed university here on Sunday. Palaniswami was conferred the “Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa),” at the 28th convocation of the Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute. This is the first honorary doctorate received by Palaniswami, who became Chief Minister in 2017. Late Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi had been conferred multiple honorary doctorates by various universities. PTI
