Merkel on 3-day visit to India

New Delhi, October 31

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, accompanied by a dozen ministers and a business delegation, today arrived on a three-day visit to India starting today to strengthen bilateral strategic ties.

“She will hold talks with PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and other senior officials on trade and investment and high-tech,” said Raveesh Kumar, MEA Spokesperson. A day earlier, the German Parliament had passed a resolution that called for upgrading of ties between Germany and India with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas describing India as a “pillar of stability” in South Asia. “It would be dangerous to constrict Asia policy too much to China, especially as we have a partner in India that is much closer to our values of democracy,” he had said. — TNS
