Tribune News Service

Mumbai, October 19

The troubled Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL) is now under the scanner of investigation agencies for allegedly paying more than Rs 2,100 crore to the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim via a shell company.

Documents recovered by the ED, which is probing late gangster Iqbal Memon, alias Mirchi’s, involvement in Mumbai’s real estate deals indicated the DHFL had extended loans worth Rs 2,186 crore to Sunblink Real Estate having links to Mirchi.

“Loans were extended to Sunblink over a period of several years and the funds are suspected to have been diverted to Dubai,” an ED official said. The DHFL had been lending to Sunblink since 2010, according to officials here.

ED officials today raided 14 properties, including offices and residences belonging to DHFL and its promoters, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhwan.

Both Kapil and Dheeraj are the nephews of Rakesh Wadhwan, promoter of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd, who is presently in police custody for allegedly defrauding the PMC  Bank.
